Smart Mom Teething Bling

smartmom_mp_splash“How is it?”

“It’s AWESOME.”

“Yeah?  Why?”

“Because it’s chewy.”

If my one year old could talk, that’s the conversation I would have had with him about the Smart Mom Teething Bling necklace.  How do I know this?  Because I have a 30 year old friend who chews on EVERYTHING and I had that conversation with him.

These cool Teething Bling pendants and bangles are non-toxic, latex-free, food–safe, even dishwasher-friendly!  I got the turquoise pendant and everyone seems to be fighting over it.  My baby, the one it’s intended for, happily ripped it off my neck (it comes with a break away feature) and then my four year old took it from him.

This was after I had that conversation with my 30 year old friend, of course.  Everyone wants to try it.  Even I decided to chew on it a little.  Between you and me, I actually have this on my side of the bed because it prevents me from biting my nails when I read at night.

Never in my life have I managed to quit biting my nails.  I get so into the book I’m reading at night, I don’t even notice that I’m doing it.  With the Smart Mom Teething Bling necklace I got, I absentmindedly chew on that and I’ve now got nails I actually get to paint and file!  They were actually getting TOO long and I had to shorten them the other day, so how cool is that?!

These super cute, super stylish teething products are designed for adults to wear to soothe and entertain babies with emerging teeth. Children with fully developed teeth may be able to bite through Teething Bling. Therefore, parents need to determine what is best for their own situation and child and as always, Smart Mom reminds everyone that children should never be left unattended with jewelry of any kind.

That’s a really cool idea. Not only for mums but for dads as well (they can wear it in the house). My son used to chew my silver chain when he was teething.

Seems I’m the only one here that has a downside for this product. I’m very interested in learning techniques such as conditioning. And in this case the baby would get used to being allowed to grab on to necklaces and chew on them. The baby can then use this new found knowledge and apply it to all other situations. This could be bad because you don’t want your baby to be grabbing at other people’s necklaces and trying to chew them. The baby may have a hard time distinguishing between the toy and jewelery. This makes it difficult for the desired behaviour to become the dominant behaviour; making parenting that much more difficult.

I saw these and it didn’t dawn on me until reading your post that it’s awesome because my kids always grab my necklace esp when they were babies. My daughter even broke my necklace while she was nursing. SO this would have been much better

This is totally neat. I think I might have to check into one of these soon!

I agree with Jacq. I think that this necklace can hv further impact on the child’s habit. However, for my baby, i tried to use an amber-teething necklace. It worked wonder. For her first 2 teeth without wearing the necklace, she was very cranky, irritated, had fever, cold, and a bit of diarrhea. But for the consecutive teeth, she was wearing it, and she had been very calm throughout the process. It is made of baltic amber, which is a natural stone so has no side effect, except making the teething process feels so much easier (for the baby, and the parents too eventually).
