This Isn’t Family-Friendly, But It’s FUN As Hell

I know I typically review games that are suitable for children, but this one is for me.  I hate guns.  I loathe violence.  Unless there are Zombie’s involved.  Then it’s AWESOME.

When I got my hands on Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, I was thinking that it’d probably be a good game for my husband or guy friends to play. I played it as a kid (I consider anyone under 25 a kid) and  I knew my kids would never get near it, especially since they’re only four and one lol.  What I didn’t know is that I’d spend three whole days glued to my television, Wii blaster in hand, kicking some Zombie ass.

I don’t know what’s put me on the Zombie kick I’m on lately, I think it has to do with my love for the movie “Zombieland”.  Also, Zombie’s are cool.  When it comes to gaming, everyone has their favorites.  My husband loves racing games, my son Lego games (again, he’s four) and I typically lean towards the fitness games.  Until now.

I always take a break from my workouts with various other Wii games.  We are unquestionably a Wii family and play a few different games daily but the day I sat down to play Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, all the stress and tension that’s been building from everyday life (work, cleaning, cooking and whatnot) was unleashed onto my screen.

The game is compatible with any blaster gun, so I use the one that came with my Nerf game last week.  I have a big ass TV in my house, so I parked myself on the floor in front of it and turned the game on.  Within minutes, I found myself shooting at Zombies, making sure to cap them in the skull (for lack of a more accurate phrase).  Rule #2 in Zombieland – Double Tap.  Always make sure you finish the job.  If you just hit ‘em once and turn your back,  it could come back to bite you – literally.

Yes, I like this game far too much for the peace-lovin’ mom I claim to be, but really does help for stress relief.  I don’t think I could play a game that shot at and killed actual people, and I don’t like that I have to hit some dead zombie dogs in this game, but when I blast Zombies, it makes it all okay.

Here are the key features of the game (from Amazon.com) -

  • In addition to standard Easy, Normal and Hard, the game’s difficulty level adjusts automatically based on the player’s skill level so that both old and new fans can have a fun and challenging experience.
  • Engage in two-Player co-op action where you can invite friends and family to experience the horror of the Darkside Chronicles along side you.
  • Experience environments and areas from classic Resident Evil titles like Raccoon City from Resident Evil 2 and the hidden Umbrella laboratory from Resident Evil: Code Veronica, as well as those new to Darkside Chronicles.
  • Play as Leon S. Kennedy, protagonist of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4, his partner Claire Redfield, who appeared in Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica, and others still to be announced.
  • Players can upgrade and customize their weapons for each battle scenario. Each playable character can be specialized for a specific combat style.

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles retails for $49.99 and is rated RP-M due to all the gore, horror and violence and don’t let your kids anywhere near the room when you’re playing it.  You may not want to play it at night, because you’ll dream your being attacked by killer spiders, but I do it and I’m basically okay.  Basically.
