Nintendo Personal Trainer: Walking

Next in line in the Personal Trainer Series is the new Personal Trainer: Walking for the Nintendo DS or DSi system.  It’s cool because it comes with two activity meters, so you can give one to a family member, friend or even attach it to your pooch so see what he’s up to during the day. If the number of steps you’ve recorded in one day exceeds your daily step target, the light on the Activity Meter will change from red to green. You can then transfer all the information from your meter onto your Nintendo DS or DSi.

My primary source of fitness is the Wii, it’s kind of what I’m known for.  When I was given Personal Trainer: Walking to test out, my first thought was “You mean, I have to WALK?”

Then I was talking to a friend about it and he pointed out that I don’t necessarily have to start power-walking around my neighborhood.  He just suggested I put it on to see what I actually accomplish in a day.  Accomplish in a day…hmmm…I know I go from my bed to the couch.  Then my couch to the kitchen to cook for the family and back to the couch to blog.  I get up to get on the Wii Fit and honestly, that’s where my personal fitness comes from so what walking do I actually do?

Well, it was time for me to find out.  Personal Trainer: Walking is actually a pretty handy little tool!  For starters, you can actually import your Mii from your Wii console or create a brand new one using the software that comes with the game.  I like seeing my little Mii on my DS screen!  She and I have been through a lot over the past year (almost 70 pounds now!) and it’s neat to be able to carry her around with me wherever I go.

There’s a “Walk the World” feature that lets you draw pictures on the Earth using the total number of steps you take, and in you have wireless internet access you can see a display of the total steps taken by people everywhere around the world and watch people take a virtual “Space Walk” to other planets.

Another cool thing I’ve noticed is that since it’s started tracking how many steps I take, it motivates me to take more steps than I usually would.  I like to push myself to be the best at whatever I do, so I’m continually trying to “one up” myself and get more steps than the day before.

You’d really be surprised to see how much you can accomplish in one day and tracking your daily steps and storing the information in your DS (for up to 5 years!) will really motivate you to stay on track and be more conscious of your movements.  Instead of taking the elevator today at a doctor’s appointment, I actually opted for the stairs just to get more steps in my day!

This is a cool fitness tool you can use to improve your life (and the lives of up to 4 players per game!) while having a great time in and out of the house.  Personal Trainer: Walking retails for $49.99 and is sold online and at most major retailers.  For more details, visit www.personaltrainerwalking.com or follow them on Twitter @NintendoWalking.
