Imagination Movers – For Those About to Hop

imagination movers

That’s right.  Disney’s Imagination Movers took a little spin on the classic AC/DC tune and named their album “For Those About to Hop” and it ROCKS.

I just spent a total of 8 hours in a car with my husband and two children.  Four hours each direction to and from the beach.  In order to keep these children happy, I had to play this specific CD no less than fifteen times.  The kicker?  I didn’t mind doing it.

You can listen to one of the hits off the CD called Jungle Room by clicking on that link but I have to say my favorite song was called “Mother In You” because by the fifth time I heard it, I was laughing with my husband saying that mother’s can be smothering and we started singing “Smothering You” (without the kids around, of course) to ourselves.

This is truly a CD you can enjoy with your children.  Too often, I’m stuck listening to total crap at the insistence of my children.  I can only handle so many cheesy children’s songs and while I can tolerate some, not much is easy to take for three hours straight on repeat.

This album has a diverse listing of songs with various beats and great lessons behind them.  The Movers — Rich Collins, Scott Durbin, Dave Poche, and Scott “Smitty” Smith — formed in 2003 when a group of New Orleans friends started writing songs together and testing them out on their own kids. The band’s dynamic, high-energy shows and wide-ranging pop sensibilities (with a special nod to 1980s alt rock) made them an immediate hit at the local parks and children’s museums. Not even losing homes to Hurricane Katrina (during which Smitty served as a first responder) scuttled their dreams. After signing to Disney, the Movers released their label debut Juice Box Heroes in March 2008, and are now currently working on the second season of their Playhouse Disney (Disney Channels learning-based programming block for preschoolers) show. Since its release, Juice Box Heroes has consistently ranked in the Top 10 on iTunes Children’s Music chart. National recognition includes a Parenting Magazine “Parenting Pick,” and Common Sense Media recently recognized the Imagination Movers among the Best TV of 2008, citing the quartet’s “addictive sense of humor and quest for fun.”

You can get this CD online for just $15 and for a four hour road trip, believe me, it’s worth it.  Even after we’ve returned, my four year old is requesting that I play it.  Today, I took him to his Daddy’s office and it was all we listened to.  I’m finding myself singing along and can see both my one and four year old bopping happily along in the rearview mirror.

Take a second and just listen to the track I listed above.  I’m a pretty tough critic when it comes to music, because I seriously like to rock.  Classic rock mostly, but when it comes to children’s music I truly avoid it at all costs.  Now, I find myself looking forward to the car rides with my kids because I know they’re listening to while some music that’s actually music to my ears!
