New game from Nintendo DS

Everyone knows I’m the Nintendo DS’s biggest fan.  I don’t leave the house without it.  One of my favorite games is Nintendog, because it teaches Jacob about responsibility and ownership.  He faithfully logs in daily to pet, feed and walk his dog and even though we actually have a real dog of our own, this gives him a dog of his very own to love.

Next month, SouthPeak Games will introduce the 21st century baby doll with the new My Baby Girl and My Baby Boy series for Nintendo DS. The new baby doll is designed to allow children to nurture, engage and raise their baby at their own pace with their own sensitivities, instincts and style. How they raise and relate to their baby will be their very own personal experience.

Players begin by choosing a name, ethnicity and eye-color for their baby. From baby’s first smile, to her first steps players learn how to help their baby grow physically and emotionally. Along the way, players get help from a pediatrician who offers advice on caring for the baby. From how to change a diaper to how to hold a bottle, children learn all the ways they can keep their baby healthy and grow. As the baby meets certain developmental milestones, new age appropriate activities get unlocked.

I know there was previously a stigma associated with boys and dolls.  My son doesn’t actually have any dolls he plays with, but he has about a thousand stuffed animals and a few he likes to call his “babies”.  He dresses and loves them and I think this game will be perfect for him.  It’s not that I would care if he had an actual doll, we just don’t buy him toys.  He and Josh are the only babies in the family, so we get TONS of toys from everyone for them.

My Baby Girl and My Baby Boy are suitable for children ages three years and older and will be available starting November 10, 2008. You can check out a preview for the game here.

Fun post! My sons (12&10) have always had dolls, stuffies, etc. to play with… (and 500 lbs of playmobil & legos) They are rough & tumble, sweet & nurturing guys.
Their little sisters (7&5) are also big doll players. I think learning to care for another is great and with Nintendo? Who knew life could be so fun?!

Do I sound like a complete old fart if I say that I’m floored by the capabilities of technology these days? The virtual doll thing sounds cool (and reminds me of when my older son, who was about 2 at the time, imitated me nursing my newborn younger son…very cute).

The NDSi is the best handheld ever imo, I don’t care what those PSP fanboys say….
