Glory of Heracles

I recently received a copy of Glory of Heracles to review and as a mother, this wasn’t the type of game I’d sit down to play myself (I’m still obsessed with Nintendogs) so I was thrilled when I found out I was heading to Upstate NY where I stay at my friends house.  Her son is ten years old and as my thanks for letting me spend the week there with my kids, I gave him the assignment of playing the game as much as possible and walking me though it.

In the world of RPG (Role Playing Games), the Glory of Heracles is the latest release for the Nintendo DS and I’m happy to say my little friend is thrilled with it.   Rated E (for everyone), I think this is a great game for a Mother to give her child to play.

Alex (my dutiful game tester) compares the Glory of Heracles to the Final Fantasy series because of the battle choices and magic involved.  If you choose to utilize the magic, you’re taken into a mini game that is beneficial because as you progress through the game they get more difficult.   (more…)

Easy Piano for the Nintendo DS – A Great Way To Learn Piano

Okay, now this is just awesome. Modern technology is allowing us to take our talent on road trips, to the grocery store or anywhere you take your Nintendo DS with a brand new game called Easy Piano!

I have a special love for the Piano. I was born into a very creative family, and all of us have special artistic talents. The youngest of four children, I grew up having my sister posing me in chairs and laughing together as she used pencils to draw various portraits of me.

My brother Chris not only had a great voice and artistic talent, but he also plays the piano.

Mark, my other brother excels at Graphic Design, drawing and has a way with words and beats (yeah, he calls himself DJ Shamrock). (more…)

Endless Ocean: Blue World

Nintendo Wii Endless Ocean

The second I unwrapped Endless Ocean Blue World, I couldn’t have been more excited.  I was given Nintendo Wii Points before and had used them to download a game where you got to make fish in an aquarium and I later on played another game that involved diving into the ocean to look at various sea life (it quite possibly could have been a different version of this!).

My excitement was well deserved.  I loved the game play of this product.  The fact that my son can play with my guidance made it a great game to play as a family (although I wanted some alone time to play it myself).  Since my oldest is only five, he can’t read well, so we got to read the words at the bottom of the screen together and enjoy learning about the different types of fish (and mammals) there are in the ocean.

My only problem was my two year old wanting in on the action but thankfully I have enough Wii remotes to satisfy an army so even he felt like he was helping us in the game.

Endless Ocean Blue World is rated E for Everyone 10+ mainly due to the fact that kids have to be able to read and there is some mild Whale attacks, but overall it’s a fantastic game that the kids can love.

I was talking to my neighbor about the review and he was practically jumping around asking to borrow it when I’ve finished my review and write up.  I’m taking my time to torture him, but that’s just for fun.

I wasn’t a fan of the music throughout the game because sometimes silence is golden but with the graphics and beauty the wonders of this game more than makes up for it.  You get to experience the animals of the Arctic and the thrill of swimming through the coral reef.

This isn’t a game you can just visualize, you have to see it for yourself so I’m going to wrap this up with a quick video for you to take a look at.  I think this is a game you and your family could really enjoy.

The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (Nintendo DS)

legens of zelda spirit tracks

Nine.  I was nine years old when Link came into my life.  It’s weird to think that 23 years ago, Nintendo created The Legend Of Zelda series.

My parents have always been fantastic about keeping up with the latest technology and so we had the first Zelda to ever come out.  I guess I’ve always been a gamer girl, I just didn’t realize it because it’s been in my life for so long.

I didn’t like too many different games, because I hate to lose and some of them just annoyed me but I remember spending HOURS playing Zelda, helping Link rescue Princess Zelda.  Here’s a fun fact – The name of the princess was inspired by Zelda Fitzgerald: “Zelda was the name of the wife of the famous novelist Francis Scott Fitzgerald. She was a famous and beautiful woman from all accounts, and I liked the sound of her name. So I took the liberty of using her name for the very first Zelda title,” Miyamoto (it’s creator) explained.

Now that I’m the parent, I make sure I keep myself and my family up to date with the latest technology, and I am a devoted Nintendo player.  Wii, DS, DSi- we have them all.  I love it so much I even co-founded The Wii Mommies website! (more…)

This Isn’t Family-Friendly, But It’s FUN As Hell

resident-evil-the-darkside-chronicles-wallpaper

I know I typically review games that are suitable for children, but this one is for me.  I hate guns.  I loathe violence.  Unless there are Zombie’s involved.  Then it’s AWESOME.

When I got my hands on Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, I was thinking that it’d probably be a good game for my husband or guy friends to play. I played it as a kid (I consider anyone under 25 a kid) and  I knew my kids would never get near it, especially since they’re only four and one lol.  What I didn’t know is that I’d spend three whole days glued to my television, Wii blaster in hand, kicking some Zombie ass.

I don’t know what’s put me on the Zombie kick I’m on lately, I think it has to do with my love for the movie “Zombieland”.  Also, Zombie’s are cool.  When it comes to gaming, everyone has their favorites.  My husband loves racing games, my son Lego games (again, he’s four) and I typically lean towards the fitness games.  Until now. (more…)
