Braun Thermoscan

I was recently given the opportunity to review this outstanding product from BraunThe Braun Thermoscan Exac Temp Ear Thermometer is a blessing from above in my house.  This time of year is a nightmare for everyone.  Especially since we have Joshua, our 7 month old at home and Jacob, our 3 1/2 year old in school part time.

I don’t know what it is these kids do at school, but my son is constantly coming home with something.  One week he’s coughing, the next he’s got the flu.  When he brings it home, it just slowly circulates throughout the family, so by the time one of us finally gets better, another one is sick and ready to reinfect.

Jacob has refused to have his temperature taken since birth.  He doesn’t like the unknown and seeing a thermometer coming towards him sends him running for the hills.  Heck, the KNOWN sends him running.

The last thing I want to use is a rectal thermometer.  I’ve had to on the baby, and he poops on me every time.  Putting a thermometer in the mouth would be fine if he wasn’t throwing a fit, causing an unclear reading and the same goes for under the arm.

Most thermometers require about 30 seconds to register.  To a normal person, that’s nothing.  To a mother with a sick screaming toddler, it’s an eternity.

When I got the Braun Thermoscan Exac Temp I did a happy dance.  First off, because it made me feel like a doctor, being the same thing the doctors use in their offices.  Secondly, because in absolutely no time at all, I was able to get an exact reading of my son’s temp.

The Thermoscan Exac Temp comes with a unique pre-warmed tip that helps provide better accuracy.  It minimizes the cooling effect that could result from the insertion of a cool probe tip. The pre-warmed tip helps ensure accuracy every time.

It also comes with the hygienic lens filter, which helps ensure an exact reading while preventing cross contamination.  If you have 2 sick children but don’t know if they have the same sickness, the last thing you want to do is have them share anything that could harm the other one.

As soon as I got it, I took that puppy out and got it ready to go.  Before Jake even had time to react, I had it in and out of his ear with a clear reading.  The digital display reads large and clear, and the Thermoscan Exac Temp comes with an ExacTemp light indicates secure position and confirms accurate reading. It flashes during the measuring process as long as the probe is securely positioned and lights up continuously once an accurate reading has been taken.

So thank you, Braun, for making the toughest times in my life a little bit easier.  I have enough to deal with when I have a sick child.  It’s a relief to know I don’t have to fight to get an exact temperature in case I have to call the doctor.  I can feel confident when the nurse asks what my son’s temp is, instead of having to say , “Well, it SAID 103.2 but he was squirming and crying and I’m not sure if it’s accurate.”

When it comes to your health and the health of your kids, you don’t want to mess around.  For a listing of where you can purchase a Braun Thermoscan Exac Temp, look here.
