Nintendo DS Lite

Oh yeah, I’m a cool mom.  I’m also determined to stay one.  Growing up, I was so impressed with my father.  He was always up to date with the latest in men’s fashion, music and Entertainment.  Today, at a spry 65, he can still advise me on the latest in books, television  and movies.

Because of this, I’ve always said that no matter how things evolve, I plan on evolving with it.  Too often I see kids embarrassed by their parents when the parents try to be “cool” without actually knowing whats popular with our children of today.  (more…)

Once more, with feeling.

If you are not familiar with the cult hit, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, it’s not too late.  Anyone who has seen it either thinks its the greatest show ever made (it is) or thinks it’s completely ridiculous.  When I mention I’m a fan (understatement) I either get laughed at or embraced.  It started years ago when I first moved to Charlotte, NC.  My roommates at the time, Chris and Ryan, were obsessed.  I was new in town and moved in with them for a while so I could save up money for my own place.  The devotion they had for this show intrigued me, so I mentioned that I was interested in checking it out.

That was all I needed to say.  Within moments, I was placed (literally) in front of the TV as Ryan starts pulling out VCR tapes (yep, 7 years ago).   He just HAPPENED to have every single episode from the season one premiere all the way to season 5.  Season 6 was also under way, but they had all of those on the Tivo, waiting for anyone willing to watch.  Watch I did.  For 3 straight weeks, every single waking minute, I watched.  I watched alone, I watched with friends.  I watched on the very couch I sit on now.  (more…)

Wii Love it!

Okay, so I’ve always heard how kids get the hang of new things faster than adults, but at THREE?!

I was the anti-everything girl.  Anti-sports, anti-video games.  Then I had kids.  Since we found out I was having a boy with my first pregnancy, my husband was talking about video games as bonding.  He was asking for gameboys for Christmas when Jake was 6 months old.  I’d laugh and roll my eyes, but those games were NOT coming in my house.  (more…)

The Host

When I was pregnant with my second, Joshua, I was on bedrest for WEEKS. The local library was my best friend. I was reading on average about 8 books a week and I picked up the Stephanie Meyer Twighlight Trilogy. I loved that series and recommended it to all my friends, saying it’d make a great movie. Next thing I know, it’s all the rage and the movie is made. It’s nice to be among the first to discover a good thing.

So when I was visiting family in Upstate NY and my father handed me “The Host” I was giddy. Even though I had 4 library books with me that were due upon my return, I sat down to a lengthy read. (more…)

Kidz Bop

For all who’ve read me since day one, you know this post.  I have been thinking about it often since the latest Kidz Bop is being advertised lately.  I’d like to hear what all my new readers have to say on this subject.

I love music.  One song I especially enjoy is Kelly Clarkson’s “Because of You.”  If anyone knows this popular tune, you may already be familiar with the lyrics.  For those of you who aren’t, here’s an excerpt.

“I watched you die
I heard you cry
Every night in your sleep
I was so young
You should have known better than to lean on me
You never thought of anyone else
You just saw your pain
And now I cry
In the middle of the night
For the same damn thing”
